Healthy eating, motivation

Nutrition is Key

One of the things I hear people complain about the most is their nutrition and finding easy ways to stay on track. Nutrition is the key component in seeing results. Not only it it important for your fitness goals, but eating a balanced diet is essential for your health and wellbeing. It provides you with the energy, protein, essential fats, vitamins and minerals to live, grow and function properly. You can’t workout a poor diet!

Nutrition has always been a passion of mine and something that comes pretty easy to me (well, except on cookie friday or date night…). For the most part, I stick to a balanced diet. I eat good, whole foods with little chemicals and thankfully I have an amazing husband who likes to eat the same way.

I base my meal plan on the 21 day fix style. I find this program allows me to have a perfect balance, with little restrictions and helps me keep an eye on my portion sizes. I know if I’m going out to dinner, I’ll save a yellow (carbs) and red (protein) serving size. If I plan on having dessert, I will save my yellow for dessert and eat a balanced plate of protein and vegetables. It’s all about balance, never deprivation! I thought I would share with you what a typical day with my nutrition plan is.

Breakfast

Two egg vegetable omelet with 1/4 cup of cheese

Snack #1

Shakeology with 1 cup spinach, 1 cup mixed fruit, teaspoon of coconut oil, two tablespoons of ground flax seed.

shakeo

Lunch

Raw pad thai salad with tofu and with peanut dressing

pad-thai

Snack #2

3/4 cup plain greek yogurt and 1 cup of mixed fruit

yogurt

Dinner

Chicken with 1/2 cup of brown rice and 1 cup steamed mixed vegetables
dinner

This obviously varies everyday. I’ll get bored of eating this same thing over and over. I often swap a snack raw veggies and hummus, or I’ll have gluten free toast with breakfast.

Your nutrition doesn’t have to take a lot of time, but it’s best to prepare on sundays for a healthy week. Chop your veggies to save time, wash your fruit and make sure you have healthy snacks on hand! (For more information on this, check out my previous post Balancing Healthy Eating…)

If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message. I would love to share ideas and see how your journey is going. I’m also hosting a 5 day free clean eating challenge starting October 24th and I’d love to have you join! Send me an email at j_clerke@hotmail.com and I’ll get you set up.

Have a healthy day,

Jessica
