Recharge after Burger Week

Post Burger Week.png

Another incredible Halifax Burger Week has come and gone! FeedNS sure knows how to bring a whole city together…with food! After a few too many treats last week I’m left feeling bloated, slow and tired. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t regret a single burger I indulged in. I enjoyed the Peanut Butter Burger at Darrell’s, The Double Down at Battery Park, and finally the The Smoked Out Burger at The British Bulldog. Each of these were absolutely delicious and I wish I could have had more but my body has a limit and I think I might have crossed it this week.

If you’re feeling anything like me, I thought I would share with you how I’m easing back into reality. Here are 3 ways to cleanse after Halifax Burger Week 2017:

1. Choose the Right Foods
Try to avoid salty foods over the next couple days. Switching from regular fries to sweet potato fries isn’t going to cut it. Keep it clean with high fibre foods like oatmeal, avocados or beans. Stick to nutrient dense foods like sweet potato, whole vegetables and lots of greens. Since you had a lot of red meat over the last few days, try white fish like haddock, halibut and cod. Or white meat like chicken and turkey. If your body can’t shake the sugar cravings it’s experiencing, try half a banana or apple with all natural peanut butter.

If you’re looking for a quick fix, you can mix together a healthy superfood smoothie with many of the above ingredients to help give your body a healthy push.

Try the Berry Breakfast:

1/2 c frozen unsweetened raspberries
¾ c chilled unsweetened almond or rice milk
¼ c frozen pitted unsweetened cherries
1 Tbsp honey
1 tsp finely grated fresh ginger
1 tsp ground flaxseed
1 tsp fresh lemon juice

*Add a cup of spinach or kale if you’re feeling brave!

2. Exercise and Meditation

Light exercise, something as simple as walking around the block will help your body feel like your pre-burger week self again. And no, moaning on the floor from being too full doesn’t count! Try to focus on what your body needs, is it a good stretch or maybe an intense sweat? Whatever it is, be kind to yourself.

3. Clean Your Body With Water

Drink lots of water! And if you don’t like water, that really is too bad because water makes up nearly 85 percent of your brain, about 80 percent of your blood and about 70 percent of your lean muscle.

If you only drank beer in the spirit of Burger Week, it’s time to start chugging some H2O. This miracle substance will help metabolize the abundance of carbs and protein you ingested and help your body recover. Try adding things like lemon, fresh mint leaves or fruit to your water to jazz it up.

If you can (and if you can, you deserve an award) avoid too much coffee. Your body is trying to readjust and it doesn’t need the extra confusion. Switch to herbal or green tea for the week.

Lucky for you, on April 3rd we’ll be starting a 5 day FREE water challenge and clean eating group! This group will provide support, accountability, meal plans, recipes, grocery lists, coaching, fun prizes and more! I’ll be in there working hard to get back to normal before I indulge at Easter!
Add Jessica Clerke on Facebook or send me a message and I’ll add you to the group!
