Labour Day Blues

Where did summer go?

I’m sitting here on this beautiful labour day with a million thoughts going through my head but the biggest one is where did summer go?

Now don’t get me wrong, September is my favourite month so I’m not exactly feeling the “blues” but I do feel like I blinked and summer was gone.

We had one of those summers that was filled with unexpected plans – a few little accidents, illnesses and our cat’s urinary block. If there perfect was a time for all this to happen, it was this summer! Why? Because we had a really quiet summer.

I also took on an extra job this summer, just for fun, and it definitely added some unplanned stress to the list. Not to mention the crippling heat! HOLY MOLY this was a hot summer!

But when I look back at the summer, all I remember is the quiet afternoons on my laptop, coffee dates with my love and a lot of cat cuddles. Maybe that sounds boring to you but for me, it was pure bliss.

For the first time ever, we were forced to slow down and focus on the things that matter to us. We worked on our schedule, not anyone else’s and it felt glorious. We’ve never spent so many weekends at home as we did this year.

So even in the thick of it all, we counted our blessings and enjoyed summer to the fullest because it’s short here in Canada.

Now it’s time to bring on my favourite month of all – Hello September!

September: it was the most beautiful of words, he’d always felt, evoking orange-flowers, swallows, and regret.
